STEM NOUN

Definition: The stem conducts nutrients collected by the root and feeds the plant so it can flourish. We, like the stem collect the most seasonal, local ingredients

pop ups

We like teaming up with like-minded groups in the area where breweries, markets and events draw out our own creativity to match the space. Have a look at “What’s On” in the menu above to see where you can join in on the food and good times.

sustainability

Being careful with the environment is a big deal to us at Stem. The hospitality industry in particular is known for being wasteful on a number of fronts which makes us all the more committed to holistic systems whereby we create fantastic meals with as little waste as possible.

sustainability

full circle

Local producers

There are so many wonderful producers in New Zealand, especially here in the Otago region. So we choose the freshest seasonal produce and save on packaging by using reusable containers to collect our ingredients.

Preperation

Stem Fine Foods reduces waste by composting all food scraps, using silicone mats instead of baking paper, and storing our food in reusable containers instead of using cling wrap. This keeps both our overall costs and environmental impact down.

Service of food

When serving you or your group Stem uses compostable plates, napkins and cutlery. You can then dispose your waste in our compost and recycling bins provided at all of our events. You get to enjoy the meal without damaging the earth along the way.

.

Clean up, compost, repeat

Stem ensure that no disposable cloths are used for clean up. We buy quality materials which can be washed and reused. We also compost food waste back onto the veggie patch completing the cycle.

testimonials

integrate beautifully into any scene

At Lake Hawea Station we have loved working with Mitch and Anna to provide not just meals but experiences for our visitors. From purpose built lamb spits made especially to fit over the LHS fire pits to plated dinners and Xmas feasts. Mitch and Anna integrate beautifully into any scene, they leave no trace apart from a few next day treats and their food is thoughtful using local produce and sustainably caught fish and game.

The Ross family

always creative

Stem Fine Foods menu is always creative, delicious and satisfying. Plus their commitment to seasonal, local ingredients and relaxed service make the food taste even better. Also, you haven’t lived until you’ve tried their Paris Brest.
